Mayo Clinic in Phoenix ranked among best hospitals in country
PHOENIX – The Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix has maintained its spot as one of the country’s best hospitals for adults in the annual U.S. News & World Report ranking.

The north Phoenix facility near 56th Street and the Loop 101 Pima Freeway was ranked by the website as the No. 16 hospital in the country on its honor roll list released Tuesday.
Mayo Clinic was ranked as Arizona’s top hospital for adults for the eighth year in a row.
U.S. News compiles rankings of the top 50 hospitals in 16 specialties each year and uses those results to create its top 20 overall honor roll.
Mayo Clinic was ranked in the top 50 of 11 adult specialties.
The north Phoenix clinic was ranked No. 6 at two specialties, gastroenterology and GI surgery and pulmonology and lung surgery.
“When I think of the quality of Mayo Clinic in Arizona, it starts with our people,” Mayo Clinic in Arizona CEO Richard Gray told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Tuesday.
“We have an incredibly dedicated staff … that really everyday abide by our core value, which is the needs of patients come first.”
A year ago, the clinic was ranked No. 18 overall.
“We do approach things with that core value of being patient-centered and coordinated,” Gray said.
“Even when we have challenges — like this year with COVID-19 — we have that direction, that core culture, that core emphasis on what can we do around the patient, and everyone is able to rally around that.”
Phoenix’s St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, which was tied as the seventh-best hospital in Arizona, was ranked as the No. 26 hospital nationally for neurology and neurosurgery.
Of the more than 4,500 hospitals that were analyzed by U.S. News, only 134 were ranked in the top 50 of at least one specialty.
Mayo Clinic and St. Joseph’s were the only two Arizona hospitals to have a specialty achieve such ranking.
Banner Boswell Medical Center in Sun City and Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix were ranked No. 2 and 3 in the state, respectively.
The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, was No. 1 on the national list.
